Chairman of the Confederation of Young Leaders, Mr. Himadrish Suwan had a cordial meeting with H.E Mr. JS Mukul, IFS, Dean of Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (The Foreign Service Institute), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India on September 02. The two discussed matters of mutual interest.

H.E Mr. J.S. Mukul is an Indian Foreign Service officer of 1981 Batch with a specialization in International Relations. He has had varied assignments in his diplomatic career, involving both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy covering political/disarmament and economic-commercial work. His last foreign assignment was as Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. Earlier, he served as Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman and Consul-General of India in Munich. He has held diplomatic positions in Indian Missions/Posts abroad in Damascus, Abu Dhabi, Kandy, Colombo, Geneva and Riyadh, apart from postings at Headquarters. His last assignment at headquarters was as Joint Secretary (Technical Cooperation & Economic Relations) in MEA in-charge of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), etc., programs. He was also the Ministry’s sous-sherpa for the G-20 process and was involved with six G-20 Summits. He has also worked as Director/Joint Secretary in MER Division.

In 2017, Mr. JS Mukul was nominated as the Dean of the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) which was established in 1986 by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to cater to the professional needs of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers. SSIFS is headed by the Dean, a senior Indian Foreign Service Officer of the rank of Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. SSIFS also has three Joint Secretary level officers, an academic wing and consultants.
